To make a negative statement in the past:

Saying something did not happen:
did not

To make a negative statement in the past:
    1:  Place 'did not' between the subject (here = 'Rob') and the verb;
To make a negative statement in the past:
    1:  Place 'did not' between the subject (here = Rob) and the verb;
    2.  Use the basic verb form -- play, win, etc.  not  played,  won.
